Dr. FAN Gang is also the Director of the National Institute of Economic Research, China Reform Foundation (NERI-China), Beijing, China; Professor of Economics, Peking University and the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
Born in 1953, Beijing, China; Ph.D. in economics, the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), 1988; Visiting Fellow of the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and Harvard University, MA, USA, 1985-1987; Senior Research Fellow of Institute of Economics, CASS, since 1992; Chief Editor, Jingji Yanjiu (Economic Research Journal, monthly), 1992--1993; Deputy Director of Institute of Economics, CASS, 1994-1995. Consultant to various departments of Chinese Central government and provincial governments; Guest Professor of number of universities and graduate schools; consultant to The World Bank, UNDP, ESCAP, and OECD; fellow of the World Economic Forum.
Publications include over 100 academic papers published in Chinese and English academic journals; more than 200 articles in news papers and magazines; and following books: Comparison and Synthesis of the Three Approaches in Contemporary Economics, Shanghai United Press, 1990; Macroeconomic Analysis of Public Ownership, Shanghai United Press, 1990; Incremental Approach to Reform: An Economic Analysis of Economic Reform, China Social Sciences Press, 1992; Market Mechanism and Economic Efficiency, Shanghai United Press, 1993; Political Economy of China¡¯s Reform, Far East Press, 1996. Major research interests: Macroeconomics and Institutional Economics, currently " Economics of Transition". Awards include: "Sun-yefang Award for Outstanding Economic Study"(the major national economics award in China), 1991; National Outstanding Scholar, the State Council, 1992; Fellow of Chinese Economists Society (USA), 1993.
Frequently cited by Chinese media such as CCTV, BTV, as well as CNN, New York Times, Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Handelsblatt, Nikkei, and other international news media, and giving lectures and speeches at various international conferences and seminars.
